Week 12: My comments on the Movie "Me and You and Everyone We Know"

Image
Me and You and Everyone We Know is by far the most awkward and funny movie I have ever seen in that sense. This film took me on a journey through various scenarios that I found bizarre, stingy, and humorous all at the same time. All of the characters were so bizarre in their execution of all of the scenarios that it was difficult to watch at times. However, watching it in two parts allowed me to take a break and reflect on the movie's motivations. Surprisingly, I ended up loving the film's creativity as well as understanding the film's message. This was not the type of movie I would have chosen to see before seeing it in class. Despite my lack of interest, this film was shown in class after 12 weeks of taking this film class. Because of my respect for the work that goes into making a movie, I learned in this class to give all kinds of movies a chance. So I concluded it was unfair to judge a book by its cover and devoted my entire attention to attempting to comprehend th...

Week 11: Fascinating Project Media Viewing

Image
My favorite aspect of the assignment was the engaging project media viewing. Not only did I see and admire the outcome of my acting, but I was also moved to cheer an outstanding performance by classmates (other project groups). From beginning to end, everything developed content demonstrated how much effort this film class dedicated to creating videos that were, in my opinion, incredibly appealing in terms of quality and message behind them. Despite the lack of sophisticated materials used by professional movie makers, all videos were beautifully done and polished. Nothing is more significant than watching a video created by one of your classmates or a student in a film class. The week of media viewing was so much fun, and I adored all of my classmates' work: I'm crying as I write this. I was really grateful after all of the presentations and was simply thinking about all of the media viewings. The effort, time, editing, and creativity that went into making these candid fil...

Week 10: Fascinating Project

Image
The engaging assignment was one of my favorite parts of this semester. I finally realized the major aim of this lesson while working on this project. As a visual learner, this was an excellent opportunity for me to finally visualize the materials acquired in class through this hands-on project. This initiative also allowed me to connect with classmates, particularly those with whom I worked on the project. The idea of camera angles and set design became evident. I learned about the complexities of acting through this wonderful assignment. I realized that a good movie is more than just a collection of images or videos; it is also about the movie's content and aim. This is communicated through performing. In this endeavor, I acted as a referee in a boxing match. I was fascinated by how adaptive it was for me to play the position of a referee while never having been one. The engaging project provided an excellent opportunity for me to study and conduct my own research. As a resu...

Week 9: My Very First Edited Video

Hello there! Hello and welcome to my very first edited video. In response to one of the last comments, I decided to share with you my very first edited video. In this personal effort, I aimed to use editing methods that I had never used previously. Also, be aware that the content of the video above does not accurately reflect reality. After being captivated by Professor Kyburz's demonstration in class, I decided to devote 4 hours to creating a 30 seconds movie. Though not ideal, it let me appreciate the difficulty of creating an entire film. In my personal project, I pretended to own a YouTube channel called "MathTime." In this video, MathTime provides a platform for students to learn more about calculus and get all of their questions regarding various calculus subjects addressed. The endeavor was time-consuming, yet I was surprised at how quickly time passed. I had a lot of fun playing around with adding items to the video and adjusting what viewers will see as releva...

Week 8: Editing

Image
Wow! Editing. I liked learning, or I should say, I enjoyed being exposed to some tools used for editing. Plus, I also appreciate the demo we had in class with Adobe Express. Last weekend, I tried to see what I can do with editing tools and made a 30 seconds video. I don't know if it is my ambition to make it perfect that got in the way, but it took me at least four hours to come up with something tangible. After trying out these edtiting tools, I have learned to respect each and every piece of edited videos and movies out there. I can only imagine how much editing goes into making a movie like Pan's Labyrinth for instance. And on top of that, I believe the mise en scene takes a huge amount of time. Lastly, I cannot wait to see the outcome of our film project after the editing part. Learning, editing, has helped me to see that it is the most important part of film making. Editors choose where and when to inlucde a piece of photo, video, text, sound track, logos, etc. on ...

Week 7: Labyrinth

Image
This movie is very interesting and I think the producers, editors, and all the production crew did an amazing job in putting together all the three acts: set up, obstacles, and resolution. Guillerom Del Toro did an amazing job and I can see some similarities between his approach and Wes Anderson's in justapositions of main characters of a shot in the middle. Moreover, when I close my eyes and think of a Labyrinth, I do not see a mystical creature or a bloody war between fascists and people fighting for their freedom. This movie put me off gard on that aspect. I thought it was going to be boring, and I guessed I misjudged the movie. The little girl in the movie (one of the heroes in the movie) is presumably an ancient princess from the underworld. I like the story of Pan's Labyrinth and I think this movie did a great job in narriting it, especially with the interaction between the mystical creature and the little girl. Set up: the girl interacts with the mystical creat...
